Career Opportunity – Director of Sales
The Oakwood Resort is located near Grand Bend, Ontario, just off the east shore of Lake Huron. The Resort includes 126 accommodation units, a Dining Room and Pub as well as 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting / conference space. Other Resort amenities include an 18-hole golf course, day spa, and indoor aquatic and fitness facilities. We are seeking a dynamic Director of Sales with the following qualities and qualifications.
Position Description
The Director of Sales is responsible for all sales and revenue management strategies and the implementation and results, including Group, Transient and Catering revenues, and is also responsible for developing sales and marketing plans and budgets designed to support overall system-wide sales plans/strategies and programs. The Director of Sales provides direction and supervision to the Sales Team Assistants, and Conference & Events Sales Coordinator, and participates in overall Resort management as a member of the Leadership team.
As this position involves a significant amount of independent decision making and public contact both internal and external, the successful candidate will possess outstanding leadership skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Primary Position Requirements
- Prepare Annual Sales Budget and Plan.
- Prepare Annual Advertising and Promotions Plan and schedule.
- Prepare Trade Show participation schedule.
- Prepare Sales Activity schedules.
- Prepare overall Sales expense budget.
- Review monthly operating statement to determine Sales Department performance as compared to budget, and take corrective action when necessary.
- Liaise with advertisers when required.
- Conduct competitive market analysis to assess and implement strategies.
- Review individual monthly sales reports and submit to General Manager.
- Supervise and co-ordinate efforts of Sales Department.
- Coordinates catering contracts with Conference and Events Department, maximizing both guestroom plus Food and Beverage revenue from meeting/seminar business.
- Oversee preparation and maintenance of all sales calls and client files.
- Actively participate in the development of new business and manage current business.
- Conduct personal sales calls to potential and existing accounts.
- Prospect for new accounts; qualify targeted accounts.
- Attend Trade Shows.
- Conduct site visits with potential clients.
- Attend industry functions.
- Duty Manager – as scheduled.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Related post-secondary education or comparable experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Sales leadership, preferably in a destination resort environment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Sales, preferably in a hospitality environment.
- A Team Player with the ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Superior decision making skills, with the ability to deal with high pressure environments.
- Must have good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Proven success in the achievement of targets and goals
Language
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work extended hours both at a desk & computer terminal, and on their feet such as a trade show environment.
